In 1639, the Dutch West Indian Company purchased the land where Mott Haven sits. The area quickly became residential as more business development grew. One of the largest parades in New York City happened in the late 1940s. It was organized by individuals who served in the Irish Republican Army. Today, the gentrification of the neighborhood is taking place.
