What’s the History Of Morris Park?
This neighborhood was named after John Albert Morris who built the Morris Park Racecourse, which existed until 1910. After a fire in the same year, the neighborhood was divided into lots which are named after mayors of the city between the 18th and 19th centuries.
What are the demographics?
There are just shy of 30,000 living there today. Almost half of those living here are Hispanic or Latino, 27 percent are White, and 11 percent are African-American. The household median income is $48,000 a year with 30 percent of inhabitants being between 25-44 years of age
Although it’s right outside of Morris Park, this Southern Italian restaurant offers late-night food and happy hour specials. F&J Pine was started by Frankie and Johnnie, two brothers, who traveled to the United States with their mother’s recipes. Their restaurant opened in 1969 with the name “The Pine.” Today, they are serving up traditional style dishes.
This small playground honors fallen police officer, Alfred Loreto (1902-1950), who saved a neighbor from two armed men. He was shot by a stray bullet after saving the victim. This area has a fountain, a few slides, benches, a skating area, basketball courts, and swings.
Albert Einstein College of Medicine
This small college, which was founded in 1953, has graduated more than 9,000 students. Currently, they have 711 M.D. students and 160 Ph.D. students. Albert Einstein College of Medicine was one of the first major schools to offer bed-side learning for students visiting patients. Today, Einstein runs one of the largest residency training programs in the US.
