What’s the History Of the Hudson Yards?

Like many other areas of New York, Hudson Yards was mainly farmlands and villages. Recently, the construction of buildings is booming. Attempts to grow this area for business and added real estate is growing. Six large buildings are going up to accommodate more space.

What are the demographics?

Hudson Yards is one of the smallest neighborhoods in NYC, but one of the fastest developing. This area is not defined in its own terms, but by the larger area called Hudson Yards-Chelsea-Flat Iron-Union Square. From 2010, 70,000 live here. Most are white (65%), some Asian (11%), and the rest African-American (5%).

Javits Center

The Javits Center is a space that hosts more than 150 conventions, shows, and special events a year. The area opened in 1986 and supports more than 18,000 jobs a year. The convention center has a total area space of 1,800,000 square feet and has 840,000 square feet of exhibit space. This center is made possible by the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation.

What’s something interesting to see in this area?

The start of the High Line begins in Hudson Park and ends a mile and a half south. There are 13 access points along the path. The road was founded by neighborhood residents in 1999 to keep the railway from being demolished. It’s open every day from 7 am to 10 pm, until December 1 then it’s open from 7 am to 7 pm. Because of the limited space on the trail, leave your dog at home.
